Our 200-Hour Teacher Training program is designed to make the deeper aspects of yoga accessible to people of all ages and physical abilities. This training is for you if:

  • You’re looking for a 200-hour teacher training that will provide you with the knowledge, tools, and support you need to begin teaching yoga with confidence.
  • You’re not entirely sure if you want to teach, but you love yoga and are looking for a deeper understanding of yourself and your practice.

01 | Practice and Techniques

Our approach to asana practice is skillful and comprehensive, drawing on decades of experience. The Practice and Techniques curriculum will allow you to deepen and refine your practice, while simultaneously learning the most effective techniques to teach your future students.

Here are some of the key elements of this unit:

  • How to effectively practice and teach Vinyasa Flow yoga practices that are 45, 60, and 75 minutes in length.
  • How to practice and teach postures skillfully, and how to assemble those postures in flows that are safe and enjoyable for your future students.
  • How to adapt the postures to meet the needs of all types of students.
  • How to incorporate restorative yoga and myofascial release into asana practice.

02 | Anatomy, Physiology, and Biomechanics

Our study of functional anatomy will provide you with a better understanding of yoga’s effect on your body, and on the bodies of your students. This deeper understanding of the human body will allow you to recognize and demonstrate proper alignment, technique, and movement. We will cover:

  • How to keep knees, hips, and shoulders healthy, strong, and balanced.
  • How to create stability in the spine and core during asana practice.
  • How to create a practice that promotes mobility combined with strength.
  • How to troubleshoot the common challenges that students experience in their practices.
  • How to reduce repetitive stress and over-stretch injuries

03 | Philosophy

Yoga has such a colourful history, and has undergone many interesting transformations over centuries. In this training we will study the history, wisdom, and philosophy of the yoga tradition. Some of the history and texts we will draw upon include:

  • The Upanishads
  • The Bhagavad-Gita
  • The Hatha Yoga Pradipika
  • The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

04| Teaching Methodology

This unit will cover in detail the methodology behind teaching yoga. There are many elements that go into creating and delivering a great class, as well as conducting yourself as a respectable and professional teacher. We will cover:

  • Creative, safe, and effective sequencing. Upon completion of this course you will be able to design thoughtful and purposeful classes.
  • Pace, cueing, class management, and presence.
  • Professional development and leading a life of continuous learning.
  • Professionalism, timeliness, consistency, and cleanliness, in relationship to teaching yoga.
  • Ethical commitment and considerations as a yoga teacher.
  • The business side of teaching yoga, including promotion, marketing, liability, insurance, and business structure.
  • Practicum: You will have ample opportunity to put your new-found teaching skills to practice. By the end of the training, you will be able to teach a full 75-minute class
